From Quick Fixes to Decades-Long Protection: Choosing the Right Garage Floor Coating

In New Jersey, where hot summers and cold winters test the limits of every material in your home, a garage floor coating needs to be tough and long-lasting. But how long should a garage floor coating really last? If done correctly, a 2-day system can last 20 years or more—far longer than any 1-day installation. A properly installed system is the right garage floor coating for New Jersey residents.

The 1-Day vs. 2-Day Debate

It’s easy to get sold on the speed of a 1-day system. Fast, simple, and back to business the next day. But when it comes to longevity, the 1-day system just doesn’t stack up. These systems use a polyurea-polyaspartic as both the primer coat and clear top coat. It skips the crucial step of applying a moisture vapor barrier. This means they’re more likely to fail in medium to high moisture conditions…as moisture from the ground seeps up into the porous concrete. Over time, this results in peeling, cracking, and bubbling.

A 2-day system, on the other hand, takes its time to ensure a strong, long-lasting bond with your concrete. On the first day, we apply a thick, moisture-mitigating 100%-solids epoxy primer as the moisture vapor barrier. It’s a slow curing coating that deeply penetrates and strongly bonds with the concrete slab. Consequently, it mitigates for moisture that wicks upward creating a hydrostatic pressure.  (Thin, weakly bonding polyurea primers don’t stand up to moisture related issues like MVT and hydrostatic pressure; just read their warranty exclusions).

On the second day, we apply two 100%-solids polyaspartic topcoats (not just one). This dual topcoat provides unbeatable resistance to UV rays, chemical spills, and hot tires.

The Right Garage Floor Coating: What We Do

We’re passionate about what we do, and we’re proud to be an authorized dealer with GarageFloorCoating.com. Our high standards are met because we spend two days properly installing the highest quality epoxy and polyaspartic coatings in the area. Spending that extra day allows us to give customers a more durable and thicker floor coating (ours are over 35 mils) than the 1-day systems. Conversely, 1-day systems are comparatively thin and are prone to delamination.

The Right Garage Floor Coating: Get a Floor That Lasts

So, if you want an epoxy floor that lasts, invest in a 2-day system. At Garage Floor Coating.com of New Jersey, we use high-quality Eco-Corflex products that have been proven over 25 years. Don’t gamble with 1-day systems that offer flimsy warranties—choose a system that’s built to last.
